All About Your Envelopes (Part 2 of 4)

In the first installment, I discussed some things you should think about when coordinating your envelopes with your stationery, as well as how you can be sure of the size(s) needed.

This week, I want to cover even more options.

INNER/OUTER ENVELOPE SETS
Do you really need to present your invitation inside of an inner envelope? An inner/outer envelope set has some advantages:
  • Will provide some added formality to your event
  • Will add extra protection for your invitation
If your event is lighthearted or has an element of whimsy, then I would forgo the inner envelope. Envelope sets are also cost drivers so if no one is passionate about using them, the outer envelope alone will be enough.

If you do want to use envelope sets, understand that it is not as simple as fitting a smaller envelope inside of a larger envelope (even if it is the next largest size). There are special sizes for envelope sets and if you purchase the set, the envelopes fit together more comfortably. Typical size is 5 7/16 x 7 5/8.

Great places to purchase inner/outer envelopes:

LCI Paper
Invitation Outlet
D.I.Y. Papers

ENVELOPE LINERS
Envelope liners can add drama, flair and creativity to your envelopes. Your envelope can be purchased with liners already affixed, or you can create your own. Envelopes that feature liners come in several colors, and the most popular styles are matte or foil finish.

To make your own liners, you can utilize templates from Paper Source. There is also an instructional video. You can easily duplicate key patterns and design elements from your suite and create a real showcase for your invite.
